“We are building something radically new at Futuro, an investigative effort that will work directly with communities to address the issues they are facing,” says Diane Sylvester, Executive Producer for FUH. “Kara’s deep knowledge about journalism and community-building will be an invaluable asset for our organization.”

Andrade brings extensive experience in journalism, most recently serving as program director at the International Center for Journalists where she directed the Mexico Border Investigative Reporting Hub, Latin America Media Initiative, and Open Data Costa Rica. Andrade co-founded HablaCentro Informatics NFP and LLC, a network of citizen journalism and information sharing hubs in Latin America that shared reliable and timely updates from the ground during crises. Kara is also an adjunct professor and PhD candidate at American University’s School of Communication.

“I am very excited to be joining a team committed to diversity, rigorous independent journalism, communicating with empathy and telling unforgettable stories,” says Andrade.

FUH is a special projects division of Futuro Media that seeks to develop highly creative multimedia projects that will build on and deeply enhance the ongoing work of the organization’s multimedia journalism and original programming.
